Louisiana-Pacific celebrates 40 years in Two Harbors

In recent years, mining has grabbed most of the headlines related to industrial manufacturing around Lake Superior. But other heavy industries remain solid contributors to the region’s economy. Among the largest is forest products, which invested here because the area offers quick access to the renewable tree species needed to produce high-demand manufactured wood products.
Although print-grade paper mills have taken a beating as the world turns digital, plants that use wood fiber to make high-end construction products are performing well. They include the Louisiana-Pacific siding mill in Two Harbors, which this year celebrates its 40th anniversary. It’s one of three large L-P facilities in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin separated by less than 150 miles. The other two are in Hayward and Tomahawk.
