Isanti-Chisago County Star: Broadband project picks up speed

In 1936, East Central Energy was formed with the sole purpose of bringing an increasingly needed service to the rural areas of East Central Minnesota: electricity.  Nearly 90 years later, the cooperative is repeating history by bringing another increasingly needed service to the rural areas of East Central Minnesota and beyond: high-speed fiber internet.

“Like in the 1930s, we are here to solve problems,” said ECE President/CEO Justin Jahnz. “We're here to bring solutions to people when no one else can or will.”

“It is so analogous to the history of rural electrification, it makes all the sense in the world this organization is now helping to again meet that need,” added Minnesota DEED commissioner Matt Varilek.
