Each of the nine articles in the “Rural Housing Series” investigated an aspect of the the multi-dimensional issues surrounding the shortage of available and affordable housing in the area. The goal of the series is to connect people with ideas to find solutions to this dilemma.

In conclusion, the Age shares its findings related to the complex issue with a breakdown of each topic covered.

Workforce housing

“Lack of adequate rural housing hinders workforce” (June 13) explored the topic of hiring and housing from the perspectives of human resource staff from six of the top 12 employers in Aitkin County. Across industries, employers said the lack of skilled workers in the area makes filling positions challenging. Positions are often advertised outside of the area to draw qualified applicants.
