A big day for small businesses

Mary Hodson was bursting with excitement when two large boxes arrived at the  Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce and Tourism office.

Hodson, Chamber president, posted a video on the chamber’s Facebook page in late October showing her staff opening the boxes of Small Business Saturday supplies they received free from American Express.

“We are considered a community champion with American Express, so we received 200 bags and welcome mats, balloons, posters, pens and buttons that we’ll be sharing with chamber businesses that are open and selling that day,” Hodson said.

After shoppers rush to large retailers the day of or day after Thanksgiving for Black Friday sales, and before they sit at their computer and shop online for Cyber Monday sales, in between there is Small Business Saturday.
