Crow Wing Power is committed to economic development in our region.
We proudly serve 37,000 electric cooperative members in the three county region surrounding the beautiful Brainerd Lakes Area in north central Minnesota.
Crow Wing Power has been heavily involved in gap- and low-interest financing for area manufacturers and retail businesses. By utilizing the RUS Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant Program, straight gap financing, and CD buy down investments, we are proud to have been able to lend $4,369,350 to a total of 26 businesses. That investment has resulted in the retention of 356 jobs and 341 additional employment opportunities.
Prior to 2017, we had an initial $200,000 revolving loan fund, established through the RUS Rural Economic Development Grant and Loan Program for the City of Baxter. The cooperative was approved in early 2008 for an additional $151,000 grant to add to our revolving loan fund to make a total fund of $351,000. In 2017, Crow Wing Power acquired the revolving loan fund from Crosslake because its Telcom was no longer an RUS borrower. They transferred $319,778.66 in cash and $126,001.67 in outstanding loan receivables. We currently have a revolving loan fund of $796,780.33 because of that transfer.
Crow Wing Power believes in supporting the economic development organizations in our region. We contribute $11,500 annually to eleven different chambers of commerce and economic development organizations.
