Cooperative responsibilities are member responsibilities
19 Dec 2024
In energy cooperatives, members play an important, necessary and active role in shaping the future of their community’s energy. As part owners, membership responsibilities extend beyond simply paying for energy usage. One of the key responsibilities is participation in decision-making processes, including voting in board elections and providing feedback on important issues like energy sources, pricing and future investments.
Membership responsibilities are crucial to the cooperative’s success
Members contribute equitably to and democratically control the capital of the cooperative. At least part of that capital is usually the common property of the cooperative. Cooperatives also provide education, training, and information to help members actively engage in and develop their cooperatives.
By actively engaging in their responsibilities, members ensure that the co-op runs efficiently, remains financially sound, and continues to provide reliable, sustainable energy for the community. To learn even more about being a member of an energy cooperative, visit our website.
