Duluth News Tribune: Using earth-shaking 'vibe trucks,' company hopes to zero in on helium under Lake County

News
On a remote Lake County gravel road between Babbitt and Isabella, a 62,000-pound truck lowered itself onto a steel plate and started vibrating, sending low-frequency energy waves into the ground.
Ripples formed in a nearby pothole puddle and rocks surrounding the plate danced a few inches off the ground. Observers could feel it at first, but that went away as the wave frequency increased. After 20-30 seconds, the vibration stopped and the truck lifted its plate, pulled 10 meters forward and restarted the process.
