The Minnesota Department of Economic Development announced it awarded more than $500,000 to rehabilitate residential properties and commercial properties in the Silver Bay area.
The grant is the result of a partnership among the City of Silver Bay, Lake County and the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency.
The grant would provide up to $24,750 for 10 "owner occupied" low- to moderate-income single-family homes. The money could then be used to make improvements on the home such as a new roof, siding or even rehabilitating a kitchen or bathroom.
The money can't be used for any outbuildings, like a garage, but otherwise, the money can be used for any other project on the home, according to Scott Zahorik, AEOA's director of housing services.
