Workforce diversity is becoming more of a reality in southwest Minnesota

Diversity is a competitive advantage.

According to the Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF), “research shows organizations with employees of different ages, races, genders, religions, physical abilities and thinking styles perform better.”

Diversity can help to attract and retain quality employees, expand the customer base for a business and enhance performance and innovation.

The reality is the workforce in southwest Minnesota is becoming more diverse, and to survive employers will need to embrace diversity.

That was the message offered earlier this summer when SWIF, in conjunction with a number of regional groups, hosted “Changing Times – Changing Faces,” which addressed the reality of workplace diversity.

Luke Greiner, a labor market analyst with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), talked about the impact diversity is having on the region.
